tax time

Well, just wanted to let everyone out there know about this great resource for doing your taxes. Here are some of the requirements for getting this service FREE.

Go to irs.gov and click on "free file is now available." Here are the requirements:

How do you want to do your 2008 federal taxes?

- Traditional Free File - I want tax software with step-by-step help

  • Free File supports preparation of Federal tax returns. However, many companies also offer state tax preparation though fees may apply.
  • Free tax preparation and e-filing if your adjusted gross income is $56,000 or less in 2008.
  • Asks simple questions, puts your answers on the right forms.
  • Covers the most commonly filed Federal tax forms and schedules.
  • Includes Federal e-file - get your refund in as little as 10 days with Direct Deposit.
  • Does all the math for you.
  • Receive a quick confirmation within 48 hours that your return was received by the IRS.
  • Benefit from Free File's checks for accuracy.
  • Available in Spanish.
  • Forgot how much you received from last year's Stimulus Payment? Check out How Much Was My Stimulus Payment.
I just saw this on the news the other day and thought i'd share. I usually use Turbo Tax when I purchase the software. It's really simple and guides you through the whole process, but there are also other companies to choose from. The federal e-file is free, but you have to pay to get the state taxes done. With turbo tax it was $9.95 + tax. YOu can either do it through the program or go buy the software to do it yourself, or print the forms online from your states website and mail them in. E-file is quick and easy and you can have any refund deposited right into your account.

There is also the other option of paying to have your taxes done. Usually they charge you somewhere around $180 to do it.

i had to laugh at this a little because we always do the e-file to get our return quick and direct deposit, and this year we got it back the 3rd week in january :) you guys are a little slow in doing your taxes! j/k

and i hate those appointments where you gain more weight than wanted! i always have a couple of those every pregnancy :) you look great, though and i am sure it wasn't that bad!

Well, we were waiting on a few items from Washington before we could file, but my guess is that most people haven't done theirs just yet. I mean, you have until next month.

But all is well:)
